First off, you are going to want to refer to Twenty’s How To on removing the stock knob and boot found here:

Second, this is a shift knob that was solely desgined for a Subaru STI/WRX, just so happens it fits our thread pitch. I asked Derrick (Besthaticouldo here on FF) from Anarchy Motive to send me out both designs of shift knob. The STI has a reverse lockout like older model of Foci and the regular WRX have a rubber ring to lock the shift boot into place on the knob itself. Here’s a pic of the difference of stock Focus, regular WRX and reverse lockout STI:
I tried using the regular WRX knob thinking I can use a zip tie for the boot:
But, because of such a small groove for the zip tie, the boot would just slip off. So I came up with the idea of using washers and zip ties for the reverse lockout knob.
What you are going to do is take a zip tie (we all know what they look like) and zip it to the shaft of the shifter. Then take a 9/16ths washer that fits shaft:
And the clip that holds the shift boot to the stock shift knob:
Place in order of zip tie, washer, plastic clip
Place boot on top of plastic clip. Next, take a 9/16ths lock washer (smaller than original washer):
And stuff in top of boot:
Screw in reverse lockout knob:
You will see that the shift boot now won’t slide down or “wobble” back and forth as you shift. It is SOLID!
Now, you can do this sort of method for adjusting your shift boot for any shift knob on the market, but this knob is top of the line. When I had my 05′ Focus MTX, I tried a number of different knobs. Focus Central, Steeda, Stock, etc. And this has to be one of the better weighted knobs I’ve had. Going through the gears it almosts shifts itself. No more “notchy” shifting. This massive knob weighs in at 671 grams (1.48 lbs), at least twice the weight of any weighted knob I’ve ever had and is made of one piece solid steel.
It comes in other colors:
Blue, Gun Metal, White, Black and Red, but I chose gun metal because I have a tan/black with silver accents interior and it matches up really well. The knob is powdercoated, not painted. Smooth in touch. Which will stand up to some abuse. I actually droped my screwdriver (tip first) on to the knob when screwing around with something else and not even a scratch!
I have relatively “average” hands (I wear medium sized gloves) and even though that it’s ginourmous in size, the knob fits perfect while shifting.
Even though this is made for a Subaru, with minor modding of the shift boot, it’s a perfect fit for 12′-13′ Foci.
The price is a little steep at $90 shipped, but we all know the fact of “we get what we pay for” and this knob is worth every penny. Looking at all the knobs that have been posted in the forums for our car, nothing matches up better and nothing I’ve ever had feels better through the gears.
Lastly, here is a reference from stock and AM knobs:
