How to Clean MAF for Ford Focus by Yourself

How to Clean MAF for Ford Focus by Yourself (2)

I want to share 2 methods of MAF cleaning guide that people most use. Some sort of canned cleaner solvent that doesn’t require touching the MAF wires
or Q-tip with Isopropyl Alcohol

I will go over both.

Tools required:
One T-20 Security/Tamper Proof bit – must have hole in the center of the bit
Something to drive the torx bit – I used a screw driver that accepts hex bits.

2.Place the MAF as shown in the pic and spray the cleaner into the MAF channel where the wires reside.

Try not to get too close to the wires. They are durable but also fragile.

3.Spray the cleaner until you see it come out of the wire harnest connector.
*This assures that the MAF is getting cleaned thoroughly.

4.Place the MAF as shown in the pic and spray the wires exposed.

Try not to get too close to the wires. They are durable but also fragile.

5.Let it sit for about 1 minute after you’re done spraying the MAF.

6.Move the MAF around in your hand to allow any excessive liquid in the MAF to drip out.
Let it air dry for 15 minutes.

7.Place MAF back on intake.
Make sure it’s seated properly before fully tightening the two screws.

8.PLUG IN the MAF wire harnest.

Method #2
Get some q-tips. I would suggest getting the brand name Q-TIP because they are a little higher quality and have less fraying of the cotton.

1 bottle of Isopropyl Alcohol – You can find some in your local store in the band-aid section.

See Method #1 for removal and install instructions

1.Basically, put some alcohol on the q-tip, don’t soak it, and rub on the wires lightly to remove the dirt.

2.Let dry as needed until all alcohol is dry on MAF wires.
