Here I share the guide on how to flush Getrag transmission fluid for Ford Focus.
My transmission was not as smooth as I had thought or hoped it would be when I bought the car so I decided to baby it with Royal Purple tranny fluid. Took pictures along the way in case anybody else wanted to do the same, since there was no “how-to” on the site when I searched. If there is and I didn’t find it, I apologize.
I also apologize if this isn’t the most perfectly complete how-to, as I did it 6 months ago, but it should give you a much better idea than you would have had before.
1.Buy Transmission Fluid
The Getrag takes 2.1 qts of fluid. In the interest of saving $13 I decided to just leave a little of the trans fluid that was already in the casing instead of buying a 3rd bottle I was only going to use a squirt of.
2.Locate tools. All you need is a 3/8″ drive ratchet and an 8mm hex socket bit.
3.Jack the driver’s side up enough to get under the car. (Or jack up both sides if you like, or use a lift if you’re so fortunate. Just take proper precautions when jacking up a vehicle! *50’s safety training video voice*)
4.With drain pan ready, remove the drain plug from the bellhousing. Somewhat hidden towards the back of it.

If you plan on doing what I did and not buying a 3rd quart of fluid, make sure to leave a slight bit of fluid in the case!!!
5.Replace drain plug.
NOTE: As with an oil filter, you only need to get these plugs just past hand tight. Also make sure no bits of dirt or gravel get on any part of the plugs!
6.Remove fill plug.
7.If you bought Royal Purple, cut off tips of bottles (easier with a scissors–we couldn’t find one!)
8.Squeeze bottles into fill hole!
9.Replace fill plug.
10.”Unjack” car and enjoy!!!
Mods: change this as necessary as far as pics, and if there is anything I need to add let me know.
Thanks!
